  • Author: lina
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 1 ½ cups 1x

Description

A tangy, slightly sweet, and smoky mustard-based sauce with deep Southern roots. Perfect for pulled pork, grilled chicken, and more, this golden sauce adds bold flavor to any barbecue.

Ingredients

Scale
  • ¾ cup yellow mustard
  • ½ cup brown sugar
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • ¼ cup apple cider vinegar
  • 2 teaspoons Worcestershire sauce
  • 2 teaspoons kosher salt
  • 2 teaspoons smoked paprika
  • 2 teaspoons garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ¼ teaspoon cayenne pepper (adjust to taste)

Instructions

  1. In a small saucepan, whisk together yellow mustard, brown sugar, honey, apple cider vinegar, Worcestershire sauce, kosher salt, smoked paprika, garlic powder, onion powder, and cayenne pepper.
  2. Place the saucepan over medium heat and bring the mixture to a gentle simmer, stirring occasionally.
  3. Once it begins to simmer, reduce the heat to low, cover, and let it cook for about 15 minutes.
  4. Remove from heat and allow the sauce to cool to room temperature.
  5. Transfer to an airtight container and refrigerate for up to one week.

Notes

  • For a less sweet sauce, reduce the honey or substitute the brown sugar with a sugar alternative.
  • Increase cayenne pepper or add hot sauce for extra heat.
  • Try using Dijon or whole-grain mustard for a unique twist.
  • Simmer longer for a thicker consistency or add a teaspoon of cornstarch mixed with water.
